What to Expect
Reimagine the world of Chinese Opera performance as Kwai Chai Hong invites you to an immersive experience at the preview of our latest Mid-Autumn installation themed the Drama Queen 月映戲伶 , paying homage to the age-old art form that can be traced back to the Three Kingdoms Period!
Once a popular form of entertainment in Chinese communities around the world, Chinese Opera captivates its audience through various theatrical elements including music, vocals, dance, martial arts, acrobatics, and literary art forms, all in one single performance.
We are thrilled to collaborate with the incredibly talented local artist Tan Sher Lynn, a Creative Technologist from FABU, a creative digital art studio specialising in interactive installations, immersive experiential design, digital fabrication, and new media solutions. Come experience Sher Lynn’s centerpiece, “In the mind of a Doyenne”, inspired by a Chinese Opera Doyenne. Also showcasing is a phygital art installation, the “Dancing Sleeves”, inspired by the costumes, and fluid arm-in-sleeve movements found in what is known as water sleeves (水袖; seoi2 zau6) in Chinese Opera.
This captivating installation, in collaboration with Think City, is part of Arts On The Move under Kreatif KL, aiming to energise the city with creativity and cultural experiences while inviting visitors to rediscover Downtown KL.
Ever seen a Chinese Opera performed live? Who knows, we might have something up our (water) sleeves just for you. Pun intended!
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to capture the splendour of Drama Queen 月映戲伶 and let the magic of Chinese Opera deliver a form of storytelling that transcends before and beyond our time.
